Located on one of Ubud main streets, Alaya Resort has been our first home away from home in this Indonesian trip.
What stunned us more arriving in Ubud, has been noticing that there are barely walls in the buildings. Everything is open, and it is wonderful. The weather allows to enjoy open air all year long. This doesn’t mean you are not protected, they all are ready to close and protect the place in case of heavy rain with bamboo curtains. But no walls, that’s been wonderful for me.
Alaya welcomes you in a typical balinese lobby, in a relaxing area with some sofas and armchairs right in front of its reception and overlooking the street. The staff is extremely welcoming and caring, greeting overtime they meet you with big smiles and kindness. The design of the hotel is stunning, next to the reception there’s the bar and restaurant area, a wide open space with high ceiling decorated in bamboo and big fans. On the walls of the hallway some typical balinese paintings and baskets, leading the way towards the pools and the gorgeous garden on one side, and the rooms area on the other.
The rooms are conveniently spacious, continuing the style of the whole hotel. A bamboo decoration of the typical balinese ducks and a rice field worker decors the whole wall behind the huge bed that welcomes you every night. The in-room bathroom is divided into the bathtub area, the walk-in shower, toilet and a small washbasin. Opposite to the bathroom area there’s a spacious wardrobe and in front of the bed there’s a composition that serves as desk and tv holder. But the best part is the wide terrace that overlooks the rice fields and gives you the opportunity to enjoy the balinese weather. A sofa and a dining table allows to to enjoy the view and relax outside.
The garden of Alaya has a lush greenery landscape, frangipani trees and colorful flower. A very relaxing place, where you can enjoy the two swimming pools at the end of it, far from the noise of the street full of motorcars, hearing the only sound of the rice fields and balinese nature.
The hotel offers you all the comfort you may need, both in the common areas and in the rooms. Da-La spa and Petani restaurant complete the offer of this resort that is one of the best of Ubud.
We had a wonderful stay at Alaya, but consider that it is a young resort, and we experienced that in the communication with the hotel. We got replied with large delays every time we tried to contact them before our arrival, so be sure to write them on a useful time if you need to ask something relevant to your stay before getting there. Nothing happened, but this is an aspect I would love them to improve in order to give the perfect service to their customers.
